Andrews Hamburgers is a small shop in Melbourne offering burgers so popular they even lure celebrities and politicians – including Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard. The restaurant’s owner, Greg Pappas has seen everyone from actors to athletes coming by and has their photos on the walls.
While doing her hair in a beauty salon nearby, Gillard asked Pappas to deliver one of the biggest burgers on the menu – but he didn’t know who ordered it until he passed by security when he brought it himself. Gillard thanked the surprised Pappas and told him that she heard about his burgers and couldn’t resist.
The burger shop has been running since 1939. Pappas’ uncle, Andrew Georghiou took it over in 1957 and passed it on to his nephew a decade ago. Following traditional recipest, Andrews Hamburgers has managed to make a name of itself and Pappas said it’s because he loves what he’s doing. So does Gillard.
