First "Green" Kindergarten in Greece Open its Gates in September

The Municipality of Tripoli and more specifically, the city council of the Merkovouni area, has announced the establishment of the first ever “green” kindergarten run in Greece.
The school, which will encourage kids focus to focus on environmental protection and conservation,  will operate in an old stone school situated in Merkovouni, which was built almost 25 years ago thanks to donations provided by Greeks living abroad.
Officials of the Municipality of Tripoli decided to renovate the building and have already begun works in the surrounding area to turn it into a schoolyard.
In the “green” schoolyard, there will be a garden as well as a small greenhouse, where kids will have the chance to grow their own vegetables. The school will also host six pheasants, for which kids will also be responsible in order to become comfortable with animals. A small theatre and wooden playgrounds will also be built so that young students can learn how to preserve and respect nature.
