International Disability Alliance Elected President of Greek Descent

A Greek man, named Ioannis Vardakastanis, was elected tthe Chair of the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and will remain in this position until 2014. Mr Vardakastanis commented that during his presidency, his supporters will be about one billion disabled people from all over the world.
“My purpose is to fight for disabled people’s rights, not only for those living in Greece but also all over the globe,” said the Greek IDA president.
Mr Ioannis Vardakastanis has also been President of the National Confederation of Disabled People of Greece (NCDP) for the past 18 years. Since 1999 he has also been the President of the European Disability Forum (EDF). He has held a number of key positions: elected member of the Board of the European Blind Union, member of the Executive Committee of the World Blind Union, member of the National Committee for the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games to name a few.
He has delivered several speeches on disability issues to the Greek Parliament, the European Parliament, the European Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and other international bodies.
