Unemployment Troubling PASOK Former Ministers Too

Having suffered a terrible loss at the June 17 elections, the country’s third party PASOK elected only 33 MPs. Many former “big” personalities were thus left out of the political life and, of course, will no longer be receiving the MP salary and benefits.
Ex-ministers and parliamentary members from the Greek socialist party are now in search of a new job, probably distributing their page-long CVs to companies across the world. Others announced they will write books on political skills and maneuvers in order to ‘teach’ Greece’s new political generation!
On the long list of currently ‘unemployed’ are not, however, those who were formerly occupied as professors at universities as they can return to their tutoring duties anytime they wish to.
Among the formerly famous PASOK members who will try to find a new profession are Theodoros Pagkalos, former Finance Minister Giorgos Papakonstantinou, former Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou and many others, according to the Greek Sunday paper To Vima.
Many of them have chosen to write books with the most typical example being that of Mr Pagkalos, well-known for his challenging statement, “We all spent (ate) it together,” who is in fact inviting the Greek people to contribute to the book’s pages.
Former education Minister Papakonstantinou, the very close associate of former PM Papandreou, explains, “I don’t have the luxury to be unoccupied or a sinecurist. I didn’t belong to the State Sector in the first place, so I won’t return. Therefore, I started writing a book on the two years that I served as Finance Minister,” adding that he will likely be in search of a finance consultant post abroad. He is even considering participating in think tanks.
