Greek Australian Cultural League Calls Greek Writers to Participate in Literary Competition

The Greek Australian Cultural League is organizing a literary competition for writers of Greek descent. The competition is comprised of three categories: poetry, short story and one-act theatrical play. Writers interested in the competition can choose to send their work either in Greek or in English.

This annual competition is open to writers living in Australia or overseas. Cathy Alexopoulos, president of the Greek Australian Cultural League, told Neos Kosmos that everyone “should give it a try” as not only professionals but also amateur writers are welcome.

But what about the rules, you ask? Each competitor is allowed to have only one entry per category. The texts submitted should not have been submitted in any other competition or have been published before.

Moreover, poems should not be over 100 lines while prose texts should not exceed 2,000 words. As for the theatrical play, it should not be longer than 30 minutes.

Four non-returnable copies of the work must be submitted in order to compete in the competition.  A pseudonym must be used instead of the author’s name, the same name used for all their possible entries in the competition. However, the author must send his personal details, including his/her pseudonym, full name, address, telephone number and email along with the title of their work.

Winners of the competition will be announced this following October, 2012 at the annual Antipodes Festival held in Australia. All works awarded first prize will be published in the periodical Antipodes, launched on the same day as the award ceremony.
