German Journalist Arrested for Trespassing the Greek Borders Chasing a Story

A German journalist was arrested together with a group of immigrants as he illegally crossed Greece’s northern borders in order to collect information for a story about the influx of immigrants through Turkey to Greece.
The 25-year-old reporter was arrested together with 13 immigrants by the authorities in the region of Orestiada on Thursday morning. The group had entered Greece by a plastic boat crossing the river of Evros during the night. This area is usually declared as a ‘defense zone area’ by the citizens.
News portal Zougla.gr reports that the German journalist had initially traveled to Istanbul for the purpose of  making a documentary about the trafficking of illegal immigrants. In Istanbul, he paid 200 euro to a trafficker who transported the group to the Turkish borders with Greece. Arriving at the riverbed, the group board the plastic boat, crossed the river and entered Greek territory.
The name of the journalist or the medium he is working for have not being made public.
The ‘real’ immigrants are form Somalia, Bangladesh, Eritrea and Nigeria.
