Another 5-Star Hotel to Shut Down in the Historic Center of Athens

The progressive decline of the quality of life in the old center of Athens, combined with the deepening financial crisis and political uncertainty have worsened the problems of Greece’s hotel sector, leading to increasing hotel shutdowns.
Another large luxury hotel, the five-star Athens Imperial, member of the Grecotel group, will close its doors tomorrow, as announced by its owners in a rather laconic official statement. Dozens of employees will be left without jobs as many before them.
The dramatic decline in tourist mobility in the particular region of Athens has resulted in such sad developments. Despite the coming Posidonia exhibition that was expected to increase bookings, the owning firm could not overcome devastating financial problems.
Unfortunately, it is the third hotel to be forced to make this choice after the Fashion House Hotel and Classical Acropol hotel, owned by the same corporate group. All three are situated in the historic center of the Greek capital city.
In the past two years, more than 20 hotels had to close down in Athens, and more are likely to follow in the same steps due to the bad economic-social situation of our country.
