The women’s water polo team of Vouliagmeni played in its fourth Champions Cup final in five years on Saturday, May 5, but failed to win its third European trophy, losing 8-7 to Italy’s Pro Recco.
The Greek team was the favorite going into the final being the more experienced of the two, and having seen off hosts Kirishi in Russia on Friday.
Vouliagmeni led 4-2 in the first period, but its performance unexpectedly dipped after that.
The Italians scored three unanswered goals in the second period to lead 5-4 as Vouliagmeni grew more and more frustrated.
Pro Recco held on in the second half to win 8-7 and lift their first ever Champions Cup.
