Fugitive Makis Psomiadis Extradited to Greece After 6 Months in Skopje Prison

The former Chairman of Kavala FC Makis Psomiadis had been charged with direct involvement in a match-fixing scandal that broke out earlier in 2011 in Greece and illegal betting. He had been 3 months on the run before getting arrested for the first time in Sounio in mid-September 2011.
This past November, the 55-year-old was tracked down by Skopje police officers while enjoying his cigar and coffee. Skopje police traced him after monitoring his cellphone, which the Greek fugitive used in order to get in touch with people in Greece including his son.
His first arrest turned into a fiasco for the Greek Justice after a dispute between the investigator and the prosecutor concerning the criminal treatment of Psomiadis gave the accused the unique opportunity of fleeing the country.
The extradition process was finally completed and the fugitive returned to his homeland.
Since noon today (April 30), Psomiadis is found in the hands of Greek authorities. A Skopje Interpol team delivered the fugitive at the border station of Evzones to Greek police officers, so “Big Mac” is being interrogated in the central police station of Attica.
After six months of imprisonment in Skopje, the 55-year-old businessman returned to Greece to apologize for the match-fixing scandal.
