Wolfgang Dold Appointed New German Ambassador in Athens

Presenting his credentials to President Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday, the new German Ambassador to Greece, Wolfgang Dold, said “Greek-German relations are based on strong foundations that were built in depth of decades by fire and sword.”
“The relations between our two countries are, however, shaped above all by the thousands of people here and there. In other words, the ones living in Greece and Germany, respectively. And this is what renders this relationship so special within the European framework,” Dold added.
The German Ambassador expressed his intention to contribute in “the rationalization of the dialogue,” and “make clear what Germany aspires to advocate along with its European partners: a Europe with a future, which on the grounds of its democratic society and efficient social market economy, will be able to secure success against the international competition of the 21st century.”
“I happily look forward to taking over my duties here in Athens,” he concluded.
Dold was born in April 20, 1958 in Arlington, Virginia. After he completed his studies in law science, he worked with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served in Katmandu, Tel Aviv, Pretoria and the central agency of the ministry in Bonn and Berlin. He then worked as Commissioner for Infrastructure for the federal foreign ministry in Berlin, before being appointed Ambassador in Greece. He is married and has three children.
