Greek Mayor to Give Away 50% of his Salary to His people

Mayor of Pyrgos Makis Paraskevopoulos announced his decision to offer 50% of his salary to the “Social Grocery Store” of the Peloponnesian city.
The money will be used for the construction of the local “Social Grocery Store” that will start functioning soon and provide poor citizens of Pyrgos with free food supplies, detergents and other necessities.
“I announce I’m giving away half of my salary to the ‘Social Grocery Store,’ and particularly half of my total net income until the end of my office…I apologize for publicly announcing my decision, but I do so – not as a charity action – but in order to set a political example,” stated Mayor Paraskevopoulos when asked about his commendable action.
“Solidarity is a form of political act,” he explained, adding that the self-organization of the society and the state is directly related to such social initiatives. The Mayor stressed the necessity of the wealth being redistributed and the politics being redetermined towards a more humanitarian prospect.
He also called on his fellow citizens, the businessmen of Pyrgos and every institution, to support that effort at any cost, even if they too have difficulties getting by. “No one will be found helpless, hungry or alone in the Municipality of Pyrgos,” added the Mayor with determination.
