The website ellines.com was presented for the first time on April 5th at the Hellenic Ministry of Health and Welfare, under the title “From Crisis to Prominence.” ThisĀ online community aims to become “a meeting place for Greeks, from all around the world. To show peopleĀ the other Greece; that of successful professionals of every sector, who worked hard to conquer the world.”
People responsible for this website call it a country, not just a community. They explained to the Ministers attendingĀ the conference how they came up with the idea. Greek Minister of Education George Mpampiniotis, Minister of Culture and Tourism Pavlos Geroulanos and Undersecretary George Nikitiades attended the conference.
“This is the perfect moment toĀ start a dialogue about the needĀ toĀ search for our national identity,” said journalist Nikos Chadjinikolaou. He also added that “our main purpose is to show, through examples of successful and renowned Greeks from all over the world,Ā that Greece is able to manage everything.”
Website Founder George Barlas stressed the importance of “proving that the Greek genius is true,” with successful writers, journalists, painters, businessmen, policemen etc., of Greek origin being one way to confirm the theory.
Next on the agenda: some volunteer actions and corporate social responsibility programs, so that “thousands of young Greeks can make their dreams come true, and we put our national fame right,” stated Barlas.
