A forty-nine year old man was arrested yesterday morning in New Philadelphia, Attika, facing charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography.
During an online police investigation conducted by the Department of Cyber Crime Unit in a coordinated effort against child pornography, digital traces were found indicating child pornography dissemination on an international scale by various internet users.
The analysis of the data showed the digital traces of the forty-nine year old, so it was established that he was distributing pornographic material depicting small children.
After the identification, police searched the suspect’s house, in the presence of a court official, during which two internal PC disks and two portable hard disks were found and immediately confiscated for further investigation.
Hundreds of digital files, including videos and photographs depicting extremely harsh child pornography material and child abuse of victims as young as one year old,were found.
The confiscated material will be subjected to lab testing from the Greek Police, in order to examine and determine the exact number of files, their nature and the date at which they were uploaded.
The investigation of the Cyber Crime Unit is ongoing and they are trying to establish if the material was shot in Greece or other European countries.
The arrested suspect will testify to the District Attorney of Athens.
