"Priceless" Venetian Coins Found on Naxos Island

A numismatic treasure has been discovered at Sagri on Naxos island. Fifty-four silver Venetian ‘grossi’ coins as well as other silver coins of several Venetian mintings, probably dated to the reigns of the doges Giovanni Soranzo (1329-1339), Bartolomeo Gradenigo (1339-1342) and Andrea Dandolo (1343-1354), were found in a clay pot and sent to the Athens Numismatic Museum.
