German Language Course Launched in Greek Elementary Schools and Restored in Lyceums

Starting from the new academic year in September 2012, pupils of elementary schools will be able to choose between French and German for their second foreign language course.
German language courses will also be re-introduced in the first grade of Lyceum (High School), according to the relative cooperation chart signed by Deputy Minister of Education Prof. Evi Christofilopoulou and the CEO of Goethe Institut, Dr. Bruno Gross.
The Vice President of the German Hellenic Business Association DHW in Germany, Faidon Kotsambopoulos, greeted the signing of the chart because it promotes multilingualism and can improve the bilateral relations between Germany and Greece.
New Minister of Education, George Bambiniotis, stated among other things that English may be the leading lingua franca of today but other languages should also be taught in schools, such as French, German, Spanish and Italian.
