Lisbon: Tribute to Theodoros Aggelopoulos in the Portuguese Film Archive

The Greek Film Archive, the Greek Film Centre and producer Phoebe Oikonomopoulou, deceased director Theodoros Aggelopoulos’s fiancé, have organized a retrospective presentation of the work of the “poet of images” from the 12th of March until the 6th of April in Lisbon, in collaboration with the Portuguese Film Archive (Cinemateca Portuguesa).

The films chosen to be presented are centered in the period 1970-1980 and the film “Days of ’36” is the one to raise the curtains (on the 12th of March). Following this, there will be films, such as “Reconstruction”, “The Travelling Players”, short length movies like “Broadcast”, “Athens”, “Alexander The Great”, “The Beekeeper”, “Landscape in the Mist”, “Voyage to Cythera”, etc.

By reviewing his early work – “Trilogy of History” and “Trilogy of Silence” – the Portuguese audience will be given the opportunity to get to know the films of the great filmmaker that were never commercially available.

The beginning of the tribute organized after the unexpected death of Aggelopoulos will be attended by Phoebe Oikonomopoulou, his daughter Helen Aggelopoulos and Maria Komninos, Associate Professor of The Athens University and Member of the Board of Directors and Program officer of the Greek Film Archive.
