“Omonoia” Publications Release New Book By Greek Ambassador in Romania

Texts written during Georgios D. Poukamisas’ tenure in Romania as Ambassador of Greece are included in his new book.

In his second book, published in Romanian by “Omonoia” publications, titled “Journeys in time and space. Following the meanders of history”, the author focuses again on key moments in Greek history, from Antiquity until today, incorporating them in a broader Balkan, Mediterranean and European context.

Throughout the 250 pages of the publication, the reader can find a variety of subjects, ranging from travel notes to studies on complex European History issues, such as the text titled “Kapodistrias – Metternich; two opposing views on the Eastern Question”.

G. Poukamisas’ first book in Romanian, titled “A dialogue with history” was published in 2009 in Romania and sold out very quickly.

Founder and director of “Omonoia” publications, neo-Hellenist Elena Lazar, states to ANA – MPA that; “Romanian – Greek relations and the ongoing presence of Greeks in the territories of Romania today”, do not escape from the “vigilant look of a Greek diplomat passionate with history”.

“As he states himself, the texts are a product of a thorough study of Greece, while a few were motivated by his love for Romania and its people, that Greeks know very well, having been born so close”, she adds.

The book is prefaced by Academic Razvan Teodoresku, President of the International Association for South Eastern European Studies (Association Internationale des Etudes Sud-Est Europeennes), based in Bucharest, who stresses – among other things – that “Ambassador Georgios Poukamisas, with his thoughts and texts, honors the country of profound and ancient culture that is Greece”.

The presentation of the publication will take place on Thursday afternoon, January 26, at the Mirrors Hall of the Association of Romanian Writers in Bucharest, and will be addressed by Academics, Razvan Teodoresku, and Florin Constantinu, who is considered one of the most significant historians of our days in Romania.

Georgios Poukamisas was born in Piraeus in 1954, graduated from the Law School of Athens University in 1977 and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna in 1979. The books he has published so far utilize an interesting diachronic approach to European history.
