Eminent Greek Citizens Found to be Members of Criminal Organizations

After investigations conducted by Greek police authorities, it was found that an officer of the Greek Financial Crime Prosecution Unit, veteran police officers, bank officers, two lawyers, the famous Greek journalist of ERT3 Giorgos Feretis, and one FC officer are members of four criminal organizations in Greece, associated with blackmail, usury and fraud cases, as well as money laundering.
47 people have been arrested by now, but police authorities in Thessaloniki are still carrying out an investigation because they believe there are more people involved in these cases who must be arrested.
It is supposed that due to the illegal activities of these organizations, the Greek state has lost an income of many millions of euros.
According to the investigation conducted by the police, members of these criminal organizations have demanded large amounts of Euros from nightclub owners, granting them protection of their clubs in return.
The Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Mr. Christos Papoutsis congratulated the police authorities for investigating this case, emphasizing that such criminal activities prevent the increase of Greece’s income.
