The hotel complex Porto Carras Resort in Halkidiki, northern Greece, announced that it will remain closed from January 9th until the opening of the summer season. It is the first time since 1999 that Porto Carras is suspending its operations for the winter season.
The largest hotel of the complex, the five-star “Sithonia Thalassotherapy & Spa”, will be open only during the Easter holiday and a Chess Congress immediately following the holiday, closing again afterwards to re-open in June for the summer season.
The hotel management announced its decision to the employees on Thursday, stating that it has taken this decision due to a severe lack of liquidity and very low occupancy rates.
