Press Conference of Pan-Pontian Associations About Housing Rehabilitation of Diaspora Pontians

A press conference was held during which the Pan-Pontian Federation of Greece, the Municipality of Aspropyrgos and the Panhellenic Committee concerning the houses out of town’s plan of Pontians of the former USSR discussed the housing policies regarding the Greek Pontians from the former USSR that live in Greece.
The chairman of the PanPontian Federation of Greece Giorgos Parcharidis emphasized that the law 2790/2000 regarding housing rehabilitation of Pontians has not been enforced yet and that Pontians who have built their homes on their own are asked to pay for stamps provided by the Greek Social Security Institute as well as to deal with the unathorised buildings that they have built.
On his part, the Mayor of Aspropyrgos Nikolaos Meletiou stated that the area of Gorytsa was created by diaspora Pontians who contributed a lot to the dynamic of the region and that the municipality of Aspropyrgos wants to support them. He also asks Pontians to be excluded from the provisions of the law 2790/2000 as well as to get rid of stamp duty for first time home buyers.
In the case that the government refuses to take all the aboved mentioned measures, people who are involved in this case will resort even to the World Court for proper administration of justice.
Finally, pressure will be applied in order to be enforced what the Treaty of Lausanne provides about exchangeable property.
