Australian Greek Welfare Society Financially Supports Greek Migrants To Australia

The Australian Greek Welfare Society (AGWS) has decided to create a fund in order to cover the basic needs of newly arrived Greeks to Australia.

According to Mrs. Demetra Lagoudaki, “new migrants arriving from Greece are rising in numbers day by day, and their pleas and claims for support of any help are piling our offices in AGWS”.

These new migrants are either people who used to live in Australia, had gotten the Australian citizenship and are now returning to Australia due to the financial crisis, or the children of Greek migrants having the Australian citizenship, or first-time migrants or, even in some cases, people owning a mere travel visa.

Mrs. Lagoudaki commented that some of these people are facing serious economic difficulties, while there are some who are even facing hunger problems. “We all know how difficult the first time of adjustment to a new environment is. Therefore, we strongly believe that the Diaspora is very sensitive on the matter” said Mrs. Lagoudaki.

AGWS is appealing to all Greek-Australians to financially support its work. All money raised will be spent on furniture, clothing, and food for those facing economic difficulties with their first expenses.
