Rise of Greece as Top Cruise Destination

‘The rise of Greece as a top cruise destination’ was emphasized by the Greek deputy minister of culture and tourism, George Nikitiadis within the framework of the 2nd Sea-trade Winter Cruising Forum in Constantinople.

The forum took place under the auspices of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Tura Turizm from 5-7 December 2011.

Cruise lines and stakeholders met to examine increased winter deployment in the Med and around the world as well as discuss what more can be done in Turkey and the surrounding region to ensure that challenges are overcome and positive trends continue.

The forum featured a special workshop on Turkey, focusing on both the success stories and the issues confronting the region as it continues its rapid development as a culturally intriguing and diverse cruise destination. Following tailored conference sessions, the workshop gave regional destinations an opportunity to present their product and services to the cruise lines, one-on-one, at pre-scheduled meetings.

George Nikitiadis, addressed the assembly to confirm the importance of cruise tourism in Greece, stating among others that there is a tangible progress concerning the field of cruises in Greece. In particular, the Greek country will regulate the process of VISA requirements and is going to form an advisory committee for cruises and tourism, according to the Minister.

Moreover, Nikitiadis said that Greece is planning to construct a one stop shop to improve and promote investment plans on tourism.

Finally, George Nikitiadis had meetings with delegates from the most famous and largest cruise companies in the world.
