Troika to Return Early Next Month

The new private sector involvement (PSI+) plan will be the focus of next month’s visit to Athens by representatives of the country’s international creditors – the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, collectively known as the troika – according to cabinet sources.
Low-level officials are expected to arrive beforehand, on December 6, to lay the groundwork. The heads of the creditors’ mission to Greece, as daily Kathimerini reports, are expected to arrive on December 12, with the first round of discussions due to be completed by December 18.
The main representatives’ visit will start four days after the date that Parliament is to vote on the 2012 budget. Other issues on the table will be the measures for 2012 and planning for the next round of talks, expected to begin on January 9 or 16.
The January visit will be about the completion of the new loan agreement and the new memorandum for the second bailout.
Everything will then depend on when the PSI+ deal is finalized, with some talking about the end of February. In that case the troika might interrupt its visit and return to Athens when PSI+ is ready.
