A meeting was held between the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yannis Mpoutaris and the Australian Ambassador to Greece Jenny Bloomfield, during which issues of common interest were discussed.
Bloomfield, born in Thessaloniki, and Mpoutaris talked about the participation of Melbourne in the celebrations of 2012 year as well as about the exchange of know-how concerning waste administration and fire extinguishment.
Both of them emphasized the potential development of trade and business relations among Greece and Greek communities in Australia.
During the meeting of the city council, Bloomfield talked about Hellenism in Australia and the cooperating perspectives arising within the Greek economic crisis.
The mayor of Thessaloniki donated a copy of the White Tower to the Australian Ambassador, while the President of the city council Panayiotis Avramopoulos gave her a two-volume history book of Thessaloniki.
