Labor Stand-by Status Threatens to Paralyze Airports Around Greece

21 smaller size airports around Greece are threatened with shut down due to lack of staff due to the new labor stand-by status, pointed out the president of the Federation of Associations of Hellenic Civil Aviation (OSYPA) Mr. Vassilis Alevizzopoulos to Vima FM today.
Specialized staff, such as air traffic controllers, aviation security inspectors and firefighters, will be put to labor stand-by status causing tremendous problems in the normal function of airports, especially in terms of flights delays or cancellations.
“Greek aviation and airports are being stripped off” pointed out Mr. Alevizopoulos noting that this situation is occurring at the same time 2012 projections show a 25% rise in European arrivals to regional airports.
The Civil Aviation employs 2.800 staff and the new labor status poses a direct threat against it.
