Mount Athos Abbot Ephraim of Vatopedi has been summoned to appear before state magistrate in order to give evidence concerning the land swaps between the monastery and the state.
The date is set for 29 November, in which Abbot Ephraim will be examined for his alleged accomplice in the scandal, which broke out in 2008. Father Arsenios, who is also charged with accomplice in the case will give evidence on November 14.
The two clerics are considered key players in the notorious land swap cases. The charges against them both include issuing of false certificates, fraud and legalising income from illegal activity.
