Pangkalos Says Venizelos Could Arrest Me for Not Paying Tax

Deputy PM, Theodoros Pangkalos told yesterday Mega TV that he empathises with the Greek people, who is facing unpopular tax measures. He also added that he personally did not have the cash to pay the new property tax and thus, would have to sell a real estate of his.
“I’ve already paid 10,000 euros in real estate tax and will pay another 7,500 euros” Mr. Pangkalos said, adding “I will have to sell one of my properties, since I don’t have 17.000 Euros to pay”.
According to his wealth and income declaration in 2010, Mr. Pangkalos had income of more than 640,000 euros and real estate property that includes three apartments in Athens, another five elsewhere and 11 land plots.
But the deputy PM holds a just over 17,000 euros deposit in the bank.
“All of my real estate property was inherited. I personally have never bought anything,” Pangkalos said. “I am trying to find a buyer. There is nothing else I could do.”
When asked what would happen if he did not find a buyer, Mr. Pangkalos answered: “I don’t know, maybe Venizelos will have me arrested and put me to jail.”
