Opposition Widens Poll Lead

According to a poll in the Sunday edition of the Proto Thema newspaper, the center-right New Democracy party holds a 5.8 percentage-point lead over the Socialists. A second poll in the Eleftheros Typos newspaper recorded a six percentage-point lead for New Democracy.
Previous opinion polls issued in the past few weeks showed New Democracy with a lead of roughly five percentage points or less over the Socialist, or Pasok, party.
But the polls also confirmed that both major parties combined enjoyed less than one-third support of the electorate. The two surveys Sunday showed New Democracy with between 21.3% and 21.5% overall support, and the Socialist party with just 15.5% support.
By contrast, undecided voters, or voters saying they wouldn’t cast a ballot in the next elections, totaled 30% in the Eleftheros Typos poll and 32.6% in the Proto Thema poll.
