Greek Students Participate in Formula SAE 2011

Formula SAE Italy is a competition that challenges teams of university undergraduate and graduate students to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small, formula style, autocross racing cars.

The participants of this year competition were universities from 4 countries, Italy, France, India and Greece.  In this year competition, in Italy, Greek students participated from the University of Thessaly.

The Centaurus team from the University of Thessaly won the race, taking 1st place in the competition, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers and ΑΤΑ (Associazione Tecnica dell’Automobile) in the Varano de’ Melegari Circuit of Italy.

The team members of Centaurus included:Stefanos Athanasiadis, Apostolos Ventoyras, Petros Episkopou, Lampros Mpizas, Konstantina Yiakoumi, Andreas Leventakis, Stefanos Manios, Athanasios Tsaperlis and Christos Karanastasis.

It is the team’s first time participating in the competition at the Class 3 level, working with the study, design and cost-benefit analysis of the mechanical equipment of a car.
