Referendum to Be Held in Greece by End of Year

The first referendum in Greece will be held by the end of the year, according to Interior Minister Thanks Kastanidis, who said that it is an important choice and large institutional step, because people will influence the decision-making centers. Speaking on SKAI TV, Mr. Kastanidis would not reveal at the moment on which topic the referendum will be held and whether it would be of an advisory type. Regarding the electoral law, Mr Kastanidis noted that it needs further elaboration and clarified that the government is not considering organising elections.
“The government has been struggling since the beginning of the term,” noted Mr. Kastanidis. He admitted, however, that over the first four months of the year, things have been much more relaxed. Referring to recruitment in the municipalities through NGOs, Mr. Kastanidis argued that recruitments will be done transparently through ASEP (Supreme Council for Personnel Selection). He added that the goal is to develop local growth with smaller or larger projects with the potential of fast processes for every municipality.
