With Effort Comes Privacy-Attica’s 5 Most Secluded Beaches-For Free

In case life hasn’t treated you well and for some reason you are stuck in boiling Athens, cheer up. There is still hope to delude yourself that you are on a tiny island somewhere in Cyclades. Etymologically, Attica comes from “παράκτια γη” which means a land next to the beach. Indeed, seeking out sun, fun, and sand in Attica is an easy enough task, but is it possible to stir seclusion into the mix, too? Where can you go if you really want to get away from it all?
Here are Attica’s 5 most hidden beaches. Be warned though: you will be required to walk, sweat and give up basic amenities to enjoy them.
1 Laimos Vouliagmenis (Vouligameni)
Only a few meters from busy Asteras Resort, Laimos seems a world away, offering a peaceful haven of clear waters. Though rocky, Laimos waters are perfect for relaxing and the vistas are spectacular. On the down side, you might have to ditch your Havaianas and go for your Converse sneakers so that you don’t slip whilst climbing those rocks!

2 Ramnountas beach (Grammatiko-Sesi)
While local lore has it that the beaches to the south are better, Ramnountas beach, located in eastern Attica, proves it wrong. A hard-to-find location, Ramnountas is right below the Ramnounta archaeological site and requires a jeep-or a really old car you are about to sell- to drive down the bumpy country road, as well as a pair of comfortable shoes in order to walk from the parking lot to the beach. This is why Ramnountas is not crowded, even on Sundays.
3 Daskalio (Daskalio)
One kilometer south of the main Daskalio beach, there is a tiny -unknown to most Athenians- beach where you can find peace, quiet and crystal clean waters. Unlike the main  Daskalio beach, there are no taverns and cafes and the breathtaking landscape bears a lot of similarities to Kithnos.

4 KAPE  beach (Harakas/Legrena, Sounio)
The secret’s out about the beauty of Legrena linen gold sand beaches — so you won’t be alone in searching for a stretch of a secluded Attica beach to call your own. But that’s just what you’ll get if you find KAPE, Legrena’s least known beach.
Right before Legrena, near a housing development called Harakas, you‘ll see a big sign saying KAPE (Center of Renewable Forms of Energy). That information would not really be relevant to you except that behind this big ugly sign, you will see the best hidden beach in Athens. The twenty minutes walk from the parking lot down to the beach is rewarded with this dreamy beach that could easily be located in Anafi or Folegandros.
5 The bike lane beach (Marathonas)
Somewhere between Marathonas and Schinias there is a tiny beach that most city barbarians are not aware of. Walk down Marathonas central road. When you reach the end of the road you will see the bicycle lane. Walk down the lane and voilà! A tiny picturesque beach with only a cute tavern, free of any music, drunk teenagers and loud Greek families.
