Lignite Causes Health Problems in Macedonia

According to research, the children who live near lignite factories, such as in Western Macedonia, tend to suffer from respiratory problems, especially when safety measures are not followed faithfully by the factories.
In research conducted a few years ago by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, among 3.559 children between 9 and 12 years old who live permanently in Western Macedonia, it was observed that there was a high frequency rate of bronchitis and rhinitis. This phenomenon was very prominent, especially in the cities of  Ptolemaida, Kozani and Florina.  Unfortunately, as researches in other countries have revealed, these pollutants pose more problems to human health than just respiratory problems.
