Greek Photographer Gains International Recognition

Greek photographer Paris Doukovits has been honored by ”Photo District News” magazine as Best Photographer.

The opening ceremony of his exhibition at Andrianoupoli, regarding the city of Istanbul and his desire to present material about his community, opened a few days ago.

Paris was born in Tsoukourtzouma-Turkey, a neighborhood with lots of shops selling second-hand goods, which influenced the development of his special relationship with old items and with Istanbul, the city where he grew up. After his graduation in Istanbul, he left for New York, where he studied at Rochester University.

Paris Doukovits has worked for different magazines such as The New York Times, Marie Claire, and Skylife.

According to his interview, Istanbul helped him to cultivate an artistic vein because of its colors and its old stories. He considers himself lucky because he has lived in such a multicultural city with a great and varied history.

Armenian photographer Ara Güler was Doukovits’ source of inspiration. The Armenian photographer had the ability to capture with his camera both the history of a city and the vitality of its people.

Doukovits’ future plans include the filming of a documentary about Hellenism and its community. The artist noted that cooperation is necessary to fulfill such a dream.

Paris Doukovits’ greatest ambition is to work hard and to always give the best of himself.  International recognition is very satisfying, but only when it is accompanied by a good reputation among his community.
