High Fire Breaks Out, Catalonia

Dozens of tourists, mostly campers, had to evacuate an area near the town of La Reba in Catalonia, because of a high fire that broke out yesterday in forest areas. As a result, the railway line between Madrid and Catalonia was closed.

The strong winds blowing in the area prevented firefighters from controlling the flames.

The police removed 75 people from two camping areas and prohibited any movement in many streets as a precaution.

The national rail service Renfe announced that 40 coaches have been rented so the 1,771 passengers, who couldn’t reach their destination because of the closure of the railway line, can be transferred.

The Interior Ministry warned that there is a high risk of several fires in many areas in Spain, because of the high temperatures and the very low levels of humidity prevailing in the country.
