According to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, ”Greece recognizes the Republic of South Sudan as a new state and welcomes it into the international community. The Greek people warmly congratulate the South Sudanese people on their independence, wishing them prosperity and stability. Greece will continue to support and help to promote development, peace and security in South Sudan and in the region, and is willing to establish diplomatic relations with the new state as soon as possible, looking forward to close cooperation with the new Republic in all fields of mutual interest”.
