G.Papandreou: International Situation Unstable and Volatile

“The situation internationally is extremely unstable and volatile,” said Greek PM George Papandreou at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, in the wake of the Eurogroup meeting that failed to provide any bold decisions.
George Papandreou briefed government members about the letter he sent to the President of Eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker on Monday, focusing on two points.
Firstly, the realization that the Greek crisis comes mainly to “our own serious mistakes and chronic weaknesses, but also a crisis that has to do also with the euro itself”. Secondly, the role of the rating agencies “that transcend the jurisdictions and power of national parliament”.
Thus, the Prime Minister spoke of a need for a comprehensive European solution, because with Greece and other countries now as a peak, the crisis shows that the euro currency is under dispute by the markets, along with all sorts of speculation.
He emphasized the need for reconstruction of the European economy, which would be financed by tools as Euro bond or taxation on financial transactions in order to lead in growth and new jobs in Europe.
In this context, he said that Greece would rely on its credibility and stability of positions. His comment on “meeting our obligations” was interpreted as a message to the Deputy Finance Minister Pantelis Economou, who expressed doubts on the privatization program, and raised an issue of reassessment of measures imposed by the medium-term program and the implementation act.
