The Governing Council of the Pan-Pontian Federation of Greece and the Mayor of Pavlos Melas Municipality Diamantis Papadopoulos agreed to set up a Pontian Refugee Center of Hellenism, in the former Pavlos Melas camp, Salonica.
This center will have a hyper-local, pan-Hellenic and ecumenical dimension. A variety of activities related to culture, tradition, folklore, history and modern media will be housed in it.
The center, which will be surrounded by the New Botanical Gardens and other charitable works, is expected to be the heart of a production management system of thought and related results for the Pontian Greeks and refugees on a global level.
In the inpopulous western districts of Thessaloniki, the Metropolis of the refugees, the majority of residents are of Pontian descent.
