The governor of the Bank of Greece, George Provopoulos stressed in an interview, the need to engage with political and social forces, making clear that there are no alternative solutions except for a memorandum. “Having hallucinations about the whole situation undermines the commitment of Greek society to the great effort,” he said, stressing that, ”each of us must take a share of responsibility.”The governor of the Bank of Greece said that there should be a strong restart of the reform effort so as to preserve the European perspectives of Greece as a supreme national duty. Referring to the Medium Term Programme, he notes that little emphasis is given on expenditure restraint and expresses the view that the tax increases have reached their limits. He finally assured that banks are not at risk, stressing that they must readjust their business model basing it on a total restructuring of forces.
