Greek Embassy’s Reaction to Dutch Article Mocking Greece

The Greek embassy in Holland quickly responded to the Dutch newspaper article (De Pers), which mentioned that due to Greece’s upcoming bankruptcy, Turkish  investors find investments in Greece more attractive. The article was accompanied by a picture of Santorini where the cross is replaced by a Turkish flag on top of a Greek Orthodox church.

Greek Ambassador in the Hague Ioannis Oikonomidis, expressed the Greek government’s discontent over the article and sent a letter to the newspaper’s manager underlining that it touches a very sensitive topic for Greece and in short,  it is a big offence to Turkey as well. He finished by saying that ”Greece has received lots of strong criticism, sometimes based on true facts, but some others on inaccuracies” and added that, ”Every opinion is welcome, as soon as it does not become an offence to the state”, while at the same time he asks the newspaper to consider the sensitivity of the state’s topics.
