Greek police say two men have been shot dead and three injured in a fight between scavengers at a rubbish dump on the outskirts of Athens.
Police say the victims are believed to be Asian immigrants who clashed with Albanian Roma, or Gypsies, following a dispute over garbage salvaged from the site for recycling.
A police statement says Friday’s shootings occurred at a scavengers’ camp opposite the Greek capital’s main landfill at Ano Liossia.
No arrests were immediately announced. Police were sent to the area to prevent further violence.
