Greek Coast Guard Rescues Over 100 Immigrants in Ionion Sea

Greek coast guard officials rescued 103 immigrants, including 22 children.  The rescue mission occurred Tuesday after their wooden boat sent out distress signals in the Ionion Sea, between Greece and Italy.
The vessel was close to sinking when the coast guard reached it, near the Greek island of Lefkada, due to gale force winds in the early hours of Tuesday.
Among those rescued were three suspected human traffickers from Ukraine. The three were later arrested.
The immigrants, who had been living in Greece for many years, reportedly set sail for Italy from a deserted beach in the western Peloponnese.
Five people were taken to hospital but their condition was not reported to be serious.
