Republican National Committee’s New Chairman is Greek

Reince Priebus (photo), who is of Greek origin, is now the chairman of the Republican National Committee. Priebus was born on March 18th, 1972, to parents of Greek and German descent and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

At age 16, he began volunteering for political campaigns. He graduated from George Nelson Tremper High School in 1990. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he was student body president.  He worked in the Wisconsin legislature for a year, and then went to law school, receiving a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1998.

Priebus until now led Republicans in the state of Wisconsin, where he was praised for leading an effort to unseat key Democrats in the state, including its sitting senator and governor, in November’s elections.

Priebus will be tasked with raising funds for the RNC and leading the party’s campaign to recapture the White House from Obama in 2012.

“Now is the time for the committee to unite”, Priebus told the party’s gathering. “We must come together for the common interest. We have to get on track. And together we can defeat Barack Obama in 2012″.

Priebus married his wife Sally in 1999 and has two children.
