The Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria sent a letter to the Greek Minister of Education, Anna Diamantopoulou. The letter asked to countermand the decision about recalling half of the detached Greek teachers. “With this letter, the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, the oldest association of Greeks in Australia, expresses its’ deep disappointment and regret over the decision of the Greek government to recall more than half of the teachers who offered their services to children of second and third generation in the state of Victoria. As we are informed, the number of Greek teachers will be reduced from 32 to 16. This action will certainly cause serious consequences to the promotion of the Greek language in our State”
