What comes to everyone’s mind when they hear the words ‘cultural heritage’? We think of museums, the state, those who are responsible for antiquities, and so on. In other words everything but ourselves, the citizens.
And even though we are the recipientes of that heritage, we are the ones paying taxes on it. We are not allowed even so much as thinking about protecting it, let alone about how to make the most of it.
The Greek Cities with Medieval Castles Union has been founded by a group of sensible politicians from different parts of the country, aknowledging just how responsible all of us should feel about the monuments passed on to us by our ancesters. The union’s goal is to promote,advertise and creativly use the medieval buldings, that were made to be used as houses or as defence systems.
There are two very important aspects to this. First, it’s about citizens being active in social issues. The second aspect concerns cooperation. We have contacted people from different parts of social life, such as Ministries, the church, and even companies that are active on the subject.
