Hundreds of Greeks in Australia are desperate and hopeless. They have witnessed their homes and properties being destroyed by unprecedented floods. “I lost everything”, said George Maligonis, who has a car rental business which was totally destroyed by the floods. “There is nothing left”, said Giannis Dimas, a farmer in Rockhampton. Father Dimitris Tsakas from Brisbane and Vicar-General of the Archdiocese of Australia for Queensland stated “the Australian Greeks we have been working hard to help along with the broader Australian people have shown a fortitude of character and generosity of spirit that should be the envy of the world! They are full of hope and strength.” Greeks of Townsville have also suffered damages.
