Barack Obama called for the re-opening of the Theological School of Halki, according to his statement in Hurriet Daily. He claims that everybody should respect religious rights. He added that: “With the continuous reforms, Turkey can be an example of equal rights’ protection of all citizens, including the religious minorities and the different nations. U.S.A. cooperates with the Turkish government and discusses about various issues concerning religious freedom of official minorities and other groups”.
Barack Obama has called for the re-opening of the Theological School of Halki in his speech in April 2009 at the Turkish Assembly. He considers this School as a symbol of faith to religious freedom .
