No Wins for Greek Nominees at AFI Awards

For this year’s AFI Awards there were several Greek nominations.  Unfortunately the Greek nominees did not get awarded.
Nadia Tass was nominated for her new film “Matching Jack”. Cody Smith, who is also Greek, was a nominee for the second male role in this film. The film presents the story of a mother’s search for a bone-marrow donor for her son.
Greek composer Michael Manolis Mavromatis was also nominated for Best Original Music Score for the film “Bran Nue Dae”, a film adaptation of one of Australia’s most successful stage musicals, starring Geoffrey Rush.
Christopher and Christina Kazelos were nominated for their short film “Zero”.
Willem Dafoe presented the awards and many Greek stars such as George Miller, Nikos Giannopoulos and Alex Dimitriadis, and directors Miller, Tass, Kokkinos, Tsilimidos attended.
The two leading nominations for Best Film at the Oscars are “Animal Kingdom” and “Beneath Hill 60”.
