A Night of Greek Music in Vienna

The “ Intercultural Association of Macedonia” of Austria organized an event dedicated to Greek music in the Town Hall of Vienna. Forty students of the Musical School of Agrinio “Romanos Melodos” rendered musical pieces of famous Greek composers, such as Manos Hatzidakis and Mikis Theodorakis. The headmaster, Maria Mamasoula referred thoroughly to the history and the activities of the School of Agrinio. The choir “Althaia” was led by teacher Anna Panopoulou.  Amalia Sagona played the piano. The second part of the event included songs of Sofia Vembo for the celebration of the anniversary of the 100 years since her birth. Sofia Vembo was best known for her performance of patriotic songs during the Greco-Italian war when she was dubbed the “Songstress of Victory”. The choir received rave comments by the audience, the majority of which was Austrian philellenists.
