Thessaloniki – Melbourne Sister City Events a Success!

The Thessaloniki – Melbourne Sister Cities events organized on Sunday by the Association of Thessalonians “The White Tower”, were crowned with success. The events were attended by a delegation of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.  It was comprised by doctor Nick Papagiannopoulos, deputy mayor of Thessaloniki Costas Tsitouridis and his wife Eleftheria, city councillor Stavroula Georgiades and Panayota Stomahopoulou.
The events on Sunday were also attended by Greek MPS  Jenny Mikakou and Nikos Kotsiras, President of the Greek Community of Melbourne Vassilis Papastergiadis and Melbourne city councilor Ken Ong.  Ong represented  mayor Robert Doyle.
Many members of the Greek community and more participated in the events dominated by traditional dance groups from all over Greece. Dance groups of the Pontian Hestia, the Cypriot Community the Pan-Macedonian and other Diaspora organizations earned the spotlight with their performances. The audience warmly welcomed the performance of the Vrakoforoi Dance Group of Crete from Greece that is currently in Melbourne. The twin town  events attract more and more guests every year.
On Monday morning the delegation from Thessaloniki attended a formal lunch hosted by Melbourne Town Hall in honor of its guests. Later the delegation attended a reception and dinner organized by the Association of  Thessalonians in their honor.
