Sydney Honors Battle of Marathon Anniversary

The Battle of Marathon’s anniversary will be honored in a unique way by Greeks and Australians in Sydney. Along with many other celebrations a marathon will be held. 73- year-old marathon runner Greek Aristotle Kakogeorgiou will take part in the marathon and will wear a shield, breastplate and spears to model ancient times.

Kakogeorgiou will begin running from Sydney’s Opera and after 42 miles will finish at the Saint George Stadium.  The Stadium is where the Greek festival in honor of the important anniversary, will be held.

The same day 40- year- old Australian David Tripler will run in the Athens Marathon.

In Australia the events will be co-organized by the Marathon Committee 2500-490 BC– 2010 AD and the Athens Group in Sydney and North Wales.

The events will include lectures, plays, views and the marathon which will last until November.

Kakogeorgiou and the Deputy Mayor of Marathon will arrive in Sydney on October 22nd.  On Saturday 23rd,  Mayor Rockdale and the city council will host a major reception in honor of the Greek delegation.
